Still, if that's okay with you or you’re looking to record gameplay alongside Discord audio, OBS is a decent application that offers many benefits.

OBS is completely free, so you can create unlimited recordings without any problem. It also comes with an Application Audio Capture feature to record a single program, meaning you can record the Discord app solely and the sounds coming from it. You can even attach your own mic or game audio on top, since OBS can handle multiple audio sources at once.

One more thing you should know before starting. Configuring the scenes, sources and audio tracks in OBS can take quite a while. It's not a quick setup like Eassiy or Craig, so you could miss the first minute or two of your call or conversations.

Steps to Record Gameplay and Discord Audio with OBS

Step 1. Open OBS Studio. In the bottom-left Sources box, click the + icon and select Application Audio Capture. Name it Discord and hit OK.

A Properties window will open up. In the Window drop-down, select [Discord.exe]. OBS will now actively listen to the Discord app.

Step 2. Head to the Audio Mixer. You'll see a new bar for the application right below your Mic/Aux. You can use the blue slider to lower Discord's volume, adjust your mic, or mute either one completely if needed. Set these the way you want.

Step 3. In the Controls section at the bottom right, click Start Recording.

A pop-up will warn you that there are no video sources and the output will be a blank screen. Simply click Yes.

If you want to record gameplay along with Discord, make sure to add a Game Capture source from the same Sources box. In this case, you won’t see the blank-screen pop-up.

Step 4. Once your game session wraps up, hit Stop Recording in the same Controls section.

Step 5. Go to File > Show Recordings. Your recording will be sitting in the Videos or Movies directory, saved in OBS's usual naming style — the date and timestamp together.

Way 4. Record Discord Audio with Audacity

You can choose Audacity when you need to record just raw audio from Discord. Since it records any sound playing on your computer, it needs no server permissions. No matter what you want to record in Discord, such as podcast interviews, voice-only content, anything else, Audacity will serve you well.

Plus, Audacity is primarily an audio editing tool. So, where it will excel is in post-production. It will give you access to timeline editing and you will get trimming features, volume adjustment, and export in the format of your choice.

Steps to Record Conversation/Call in Discord Using Audacity

Step 1. Install and open Audacity. Move to Audio Setup on the toolbar, click Host, and select Windows WASAPI. This tells Audacity to listen to your desktop audio directly.

Step 2. Return to the Audio Setup menu, select Recording Device, and pick your speaker output marked with (loopback).

Note: On macOS, you'll need BlackHole or another sound card to see that loopback option. Otherwise, it will record through your microphone and that carries room noise and distortion.

FAQ: Can Discord Detect If You're Audio Recording

The short answer is NO when using Eassiy, OBS, and Audacity. As they are all offline tools, they record at the system level and never interact with Discord itself.

This thing is different from Craig that joins the server as a participant. As Craig stays visible to anybody in the participant list with a recording tag right in its name, everyone in the channel will know a recording is on. Discord server administrators may notice that too.
